Kuku Yalanji Cultural Adventures, Cooya Beach, Far North QLD

Walker Family Tours, Far North QLDDay 1: Bama Way Discovery Tour - Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours

You will be picked up from your Cairns hotel and travel north along one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives to Cooya Beach to join Linc and Brandon Walker, of Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours, on one of their beach, mudflat and mangrove walks.

They provide a unique cultural view of the complex intertidal ecosystems that sustained their forbearers for thousands of years. They will teach you to throw a spear and hunt, whilst stalking and observing the wildlife.

The wildlife cruise on the Daintree River winds its way through the heart of the tropical wet rainforest. Here you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before heading out to Niau Falls in the afternoon and on to Cape Tribulation where you’ll stay overnight.

Day 2: Bama Way Discovery Tour - Walker Family Bloomfield Falls Tour

After breakfast head through the heart of the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park along the Bloomfield Track. This narrow and controversial gash in the lush green rainforest canopy is like a giant roller coaster ride, traversing mountain ranges and water ways through some of the most spectacular rainforest scenery in Australia.

Near the Wujal Wujal community the Walker Sisters, traditional custodians, take you on a short walk to see the Bloomfield Falls and warmly share their knowledge about this special and sacred place. Along the way they expertly introduce you to the many different uses of the rainforest plants for food, medicine and ceremonial purposes.

After lunch at Helenvale, and a visit to the Black Mountains, you will stay overnight in Cooktown.

Day 3: Bama Way Discovery Tour - Rainbow Serpent Rock Art Tour with Guurrbi Tours

Guurrbi Tours, Cooktown, QLD After breakfast you will be driven out to the Aboriginal Rock Art sites of the Nugal-warra and meet with Elder, Willie Gordon of Guurrbi Tours.

Willie has become a local legend who in his unassuming way will gently introduce you to his amazing story as he guides you to the Nugal rock art sites. Set in stunning countryside in the hills above Hope Vale you’ll visit six sites where Willie explains the special significance of this art and its deep links to his cultural beliefs.

Hear how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. Willie will give you a poignant insight into Aboriginal society and spirituality before returning to Cooktown for lunch.

Enjoy the spectacular scenery on your way back to Cairns arriving early evening.
