Star-studded tour to commence on Kakadu's most famous billabong
Yellow Water Cruises has launched a seminal cultural night cruise on Yellow Water Billabong, in which most of the tour is conducted under the light of the night sky. Yellow Water Cruises – The Algohgarrng Experience adds to the range of night activities in Kakadu and provides a compelling reason for visitors to stay and explore in Kakadu for longer. As a highlight of the tour, Aboriginal guides share local stories - “Arguably, my mob may have been the world’s first astronomers, and we’ll tell our guests some of the stories and identify sites throughout Australia that support this” said Mandy Muir, a Director of Gagudju Dreaming and member of the Murrumburr clan.
Visitors will learn about Australian constellations, the role of celestial bodies in significant Aboriginal life events, including burial rites, and how Aboriginal people used the sky to forewarn them of bounties of food, the change in seasons, and even to predict tides. Tickets cost $165 per person and include a three course a la carte dinner of local and Asian fare to be taken pre or post cruise at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda. Cruises can be booked online at www.gagudju-dreaming.com or by calling +61 8 8979 0145.
